Beware of Scam Calls That Your Computer is Infected

This breed of scam has become rampant in recent months. You get a random phone call from someone claiming to be from some major computer company, and they tell you your computer is infected. They get your permission and help using fear to log them into your computer for remote control access.

You can see them poking around your computer remotely as they show you and tell you how many problems they've found and fixed. In reality, they are putting software on your computer to alert them every time your computer is turned on, and they now often call you multiple times a day.

They ask for your credit card information and charge you anywhere from $50-$300 (This can vary). Some of them will charge your card, and continue to contact you over and over until you give them access again, and they repeat the process and charge you again. Some of them will even use your credit card for other transactions. Once in your computer, they have access to everything.

The simplest way to avoid this scam is to know that NO computer company will call you and ask to log into your computer if you haven't dealt with them and built a relationship in the past.

If you have allowed access to someone from this scam, get a professional to clean your computer as soon as possible.
